In Bundaberg, Brave Brothers is making a profound impact by addressing critical issues such as suicide prevention and domestic violence with courage and compassion. Founded by David Faer, the organisation has grown from a passion project into a vital community resource for men, women, and families.
A Foundation of Dedication
While Brave Brothers officially launched in June 2023 during Men’s Health Month, its foundation was years in the making. David’s extensive experience in community services, combined with his determination to tackle challenging topics, provided the groundwork for this initiative.
Brave Brothers is more than an organisation—it’s a safe space for meaningful conversations, built on trust, planning, and relationship-building.
A Network of Support
Key to Brave Brothers’ success is its strong network of supporters and collaborators. David has spent years fostering connections with individuals and businesses who share his vision for a healthier and more connected community.
“We’ve been fortunate to work with businesses and individuals who are willing to support us, even when our topics—like suicide prevention and domestic violence—aren’t the easiest to discuss,” David explained. “These are brave conversations, and the people who back us are making a real difference.”
Making an Impact
Brave Brothers’ work has already made a tangible difference. At events like the Lighthouse Country Music Festival, the organisation engaged in over 40 meaningful conversations about mental health and domestic violence, including a life-saving intervention for someone in crisis.
By being present at community festivals and workplaces, Brave Brothers ensures that support is accessible and visible.
Innovative Training for Real Change
Understanding the challenges of traditional training formats, particularly for trades and male-dominated industries, Brave Brothers has developed shorter, flexible training modules. These sessions, ranging from 30 minutes to three hours, provide essential tools for suicide prevention and mental health awareness while fitting into busy schedules.
Adding to their innovative approach is the upcoming launch of a mobile coffee trailer. This initiative will bring resources directly to local businesses, creating a relaxed setting where employees can grab a coffee, have a chat, and access support.
A Vision for the Future
David envisions a Bundaberg where mental health check-ins are as routine as asking about someone’s weekend. He hopes for a community where domestic violence rates decline, police focus on proactive community work, and individuals feel empowered to stand up for what’s right.
Through collaboration, reducing stigma, and promoting positive masculinity, Brave Brothers aims to leave a lasting legacy for future generations.
How You Can Get Involved
Brave Brothers welcomes businesses, community groups, and individuals to join their mission. Whether through sponsorship, hosting a training session, or simply spreading the word, every contribution helps build a stronger, safer Bundaberg.
